Ministry of Trade & Industry

The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) is the Government of Sierra Leone’s principal institution responsible for promoting trade, industrial growth, and private sector development. Guided by national priorities and regional commitments, the Ministry works to create an enabling environment that fosters competitiveness, innovation, and inclusive economic growth.

MTI’s mandate focuses on developing effective trade and industrial policies that drive value addition, attract investment, and expand market access for Sierra Leonean goods and services. Through strategic partnerships with local and international stakeholders, the Ministry facilitates sustainable industrialization, export diversification, and job creation.

The Ministry also oversees key agencies such as the Sierra Leone Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SLIEPA), the Sierra Leone Standards Bureau (SLSB), the Local Content Agency, and the Department of Cooperatives, ensuring a cohesive approach to economic transformation and quality assurance across all sectors.

MTI’s vision is to position Sierra Leone as a competitive participant in regional and global trade, while empowering its citizens—particularly women and youth—to actively contribute to the country’s industrial and entrepreneurial landscape.
